Till Death Do Us Part

This is one of the vows that is made when two lives are joined together in a solemn vow called marriage. I never knew what this meant till the death of my grand father. My Grandmother passed away almost 12 years before his death. It was like my grand father knew his death was coming close to him during his end days. He died at the age of 88, rather on his 88th Birthday. A few days before his death, he called my mom and told her to open his treasure chest (we call it so as none of us has seen what is inside of it till he passed away; the old man had loads of stuff stashed away :). He asked her to hold on to a plastic cover stashed away inside his chest. He strictly instructed her to open the same after his death.

After his death, my mom opened it and it contained clear instruction; which stated that he should be draped in white Narith (traditional white clothing worn by women in Kerala) which belonged to my grand mom and her reading glasses. He wanted to make the last journey with something which belonged to the love of his life.

He held on to that till the day of his death reminding him of how much he loved her always. Truly I did understant then how much she meant to him.. truly it was till "death do us part"...
